In order to purchase and apply certain crop protection products on your farm, you may need to provide FBN with information about licenses to apply these pesticides in your state.

What Is a Restricted Use Product (RUP)?

A Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) is a pesticide that is classified as "restricted use" by regulatory authorities, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or by your local state agency.

Certain pesticides are restricted because they have the potential to cause harm to the environment, humans, or animals if not used properly. Classification of a pesticide as a RUP can vary state by state. The sale and purchase of any RUP requires specific documentation to verify that the sale and purchase of the RUP is legal.

Each state may have specific requirements for RUP forms. Ensure you are familiar with your state’s regulations and any additional documentation or steps required. To find out what agency in your state has the authority to certify you as a pesticide applicator, go to the Association of American Pesticide Control Officials website and click on your state for more information.

For example, if you are a farmer in Michigan, you can become a certified pesticide applicator through the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. After meeting the certification requirements and passing a test, you will be issued a license.

Keep a copy of the completed RUP form for your records to comply with state and federal regulations.

How Do I Buy Restricted Use Products (RUPs) from FBN?

FBN has a license to sell RUPs in most states in the United States. You can identify which products on FBN are restricted use pesticides by the RUP symbol.

Upload a digital copy of your state-issued pesticide applicators license or certification to your FBN account to legally purchase RUP products from FBN by following these steps:

  • When you're logged into your FBN member account, go to My Profile

  • Click on Order Readiness

  • Click on Crop Protection Compliance (RUP)

  • Add a RUP by selecting a state from the dropdown menu and clicking Choose File to upload the digital RUP license

If any details change (e.g., new certification number or change in address), make sure to update the form accordingly and update your record in FBN.
